Shopping Elusively: A House
Posted on June 22nd, 2009 2 commentsI went house shopping on Saturday with Troy; that is to say that we went shopping for houses. It isn?t something that I commonly do, nor will probably do for a while myself. But Troy is in a stage of his life that he has decided it?s about time to throw down a life of fun and get himself a mortgage. I agree with him that it is a good idea- but perhaps not the only good idea.
Troy is a year older than myself, and he?s ready to do this. Personally, I?m hoping to go to uni before I get a house…. and travel overseas? and find the city that I actually want to settle down in. I?m guessing that I?m going to be at least 26 before I start house hunting myself. I don?t think that?s too bad really: I?ll have finished Tertiary education and have a decent job with a decent salary. Another good idea.
One of the big things that people [especially my 80 year old grandmother] throw around is that it is currently a really bad idea to change jobs, etc. That makes me perse my lips a little bit.
I?m not looking to change jobs, but I have got an interview for a second job next week (another one! I got the 3 job but I had to turn it down). This one is for McDonalds. A lot of people laugh at that, but you know what? STFU. I used to work at maccas and so I know what it?s like; I know that the people who laugh at it are the people who couldn?t hack it there. So, yes, I may soon have a second job working nights and weekend flipping burgers. But I digress.
With the job/career/housing/financial crises that are underway at the moment everyone is saying that stability may just not be there. What would happen if I got a mortgage now and then lost my job? Scary thought.
BUT if I wait until I have my uni degree then at least I?ll basically always have employment options open to me. So they say. They being the small voices in my head.
What do you guys think?
